Colloidal Silver beskrivning

Colloidal silver refers to small particles of the element silver (Ag on the Periodic Table of Elements) in a liquid suspension. Also known as silver nanoparticles, this form of silver has gained popularity in recent years both as an oral supplement and topical treatment. In medical settings, colloidal silver has been proven to have some antimicrobial properties, leading to some anti-acne claims. While this can be an application of colloidal silver, there is no established research yet that this ingredient is on par with other antibacterial acne treatments, among them benzoyl peroxide, when it comes to both efficacy and safety. Another intriguing area of research is whether silver nanoparticles can be effective delivery systems for skin-beneficial antioxidants. One study found colloidal silver aided the delivery of vitamin D3 to wounded skin, thus improving wound healing; however, researchers pointed out additional studies are needed before coming to a definitive conclusion on this usage. One final note: the United States Food and Drug Administration has warned that oral supplementation with colloidal silver is not safe nor effective in the treatment of any disease or condition. Long-term use of colloidal silver as a supplement can result in a condition called argyria, a blue-gray discoloration of skin that can be permanent.
